One thing you can do to stop spam by yourself, is to use a slightly different email address when you are on a social networking site, such as MySpace or Facebook.Avoid using @ but say instead “at” or “AT” – so you will be jane.smithAT (your service provider) rather than.smith@ and then the service provider.

Since some email addresses are targeted by guesswork, you can reduce the chances of being found by using an underscore or a number.And therefore jane_smith79_2@ service provider will be less likely to be guessed correctly by software.

Spam can be reported to Information Commissioner’s Office, google or yahoo – they work hard to reduce internet spam but it’s a difficult challenge.
